People may have progressive reduction or may have a sudden abnormal vision. There are various causes of the worsening of eyesight. Worsening eyesight is a general term that includes reduced vision while looking at the near or distant objects and leading to blurred vision. There are various causes of the worsening of eyesight.Worsening of eyesight is normal in some people with a progressive vision reduction, and these people have learned to manage it over some time. However, in some other people, there is a sudden reduction in eyesight.
The following are some of the causes of worsening eyesight:
Age: If you have attained the age between 40-50 years, the lens of the eye loses its flexibility and thus is not able to focus on the near objects. Almost all people suffer from this condition as the age advances, and the condition is known as presbyopia. It may result in a worsening of near vision. Age-related macular degeneration also results in low vision.
Underlying ocular conditions: Various ocular conditions results in worsening of vision.Refractive errors are the most common cause. Other conditionsinclude cataract, glaucoma, retinal detachment, retinopathy of prematurity, and ocular trauma.
Underlying medical conditions: Various underlying medical conditions also affect the eyes that may result in worsening of vision. These medical conditions include diabetic retinopathy,hypertension, myasthenia gravis, Lyme disease, sarcoidosis, and liver disease.
Genetic causes : Various ocular conditions that lead to a worsening of eyesight are genetic. If the person has a family history of glaucoma or myopia, he is at increased risk for developing this condition.
Lifestyle factors: Various lifestyle factors also cause worsening of eyesight. Sedentary lifestyle impacts the overall health including the health of the eyes. The person should avoid smoking,drinking, and chewing tobacco. Prolong intake of alcohol increases the risk of glaucoma and cataract.
Temporary factors: The temporary factors that affect the eyes include pregnancy and stressful conditions. Eyesight changes during pregnancy are due to the alteration of hormones.
Extensive exposure to light: People with prolonged exposure to sunlight have an increased risk of having worsened vision. The overexposure to UV radiations increases the risk of photo keratitis and cataracts.
